Week One
This week I spend time thinking about what I wanted to focus on for my next project; I decided on creating something from the ancient Egyptian era. I find it really facinating the way they lived and their views on the after life; so I began doing some research and decided I really loved the idea of creating the canopic jars that contained the organs of a deseased person. Looking at the variety of canopic jars I decided I wanted to create ones from the later period as they had the heads of sons of Horus as the lids, rather than plain jars like they had in the early part of the ear. Each son is said to have been given the task to protect each particular organ: Imsety (the human head) protected the liver, Qebehsenuf (the falcon’s head) protected the intestines, Hapy (the baboon head) protected the lungs andDuamatef (the jackal head) protected the stomach.
I gathered images of the canopic jars and presented my idea to my tutor, Andy and a small group of my peers. These are some of the images I looked at as inspiration for my project:

Andy said that three quarters of the jars would be exactly the same - which wouldn't show a variety of my skills - however, he suggested I could make things from Tutankhamun's tomb. I thought this was a good idea, since his is the only royal tomb that hadn't been completely robbed and stripped of its contence. I went away from the interview with the plan of looking more into the pharaoh's tomb and life.
